ScrumWorks 1.2.0 Release
- Basic Product Burndown -
The product burndown chart shows how much work is left
to do in the product. It shows the amount of backlog
effort remaining at the
beginning of each sprint. This is a product burndown
chart as defined by page 11 of
Agile Project Management with Scrum.
- Enhanced Product Burndown -
This chart distinguishes between work completed and
work added/removed.
This can help forecast product completion.
- Velocity - The amount of work a team can do in a
sprint. This is shown on either Product Burndown
chart.
- Done Product Backlog Items -
Product Backlog Items should be marked as done for
creating
burndown charts and calcuating velocity. See also:
Product Backlog Item Status
- Product Backlog Item
estimate history editor - Supports creating correct
burndown charts. Estimates and dates can be changed
for backlog items created after a sprint start
date.
- Clickable descriptions -
URLs in Wiki format can be used in detail and
description fields. This could be used to reference a web-based
bug-tracking system, Wiki requirements, or other web or
ftp based documentation.
- Bug fixes - many irritating bugs and several minor
annoyances have been fixed in this release.
ScrumWorks 1.1.1 Release
- User Management re-written. As of 1.1.1, we did away with
the distinction between
ScrumMaster and TeamMember users. All users may now log into
both the Desktop and Web Clients.
There is also a single Administrator user that can add, edit
and delete users. The license file provides
a maximum number of users and a company name that appears in
the title bar.
- User Restrictions. Admins may now enable
or
disable
user login into the various clients. Admins can also control
whether users simply have
login access or if the user shows up in drop-down lists throughout the application.
- Edit Tasks via the Web Client.
- New and improved Windows Installer.
The windows installer now installs its own Java and instructs
ScrumWorks to use it to avoid JRE/J2SDK conflict issues. The
installer also installs ScrumWorks
as a service by default. Trial licenses can now be directly
requested from the installer wizard; licenses
are sent automatically by the server, rather than via manual
intervention.
- Delete Sprints. Users can
now delete empty sprints.
- Delete Releases. Users can
now delete empty releases.
- Delete Products. Users can
now delete empty products.
- Fixed multiple bugs. Many annoying bugs in both the
ScrumWorks Desktop and Web Clients have been fixed.
- Refresh Window. A file menu item and shortcut key (F5) has
been added to refresh screen data from the
server. This feature will make multiple user access more
convenient and lessen the likelihood of write conflicts.
- Hide Completed Tasks: In both the Desktop and Web Clients,
users may select options to hide
completed Sprint tasks.
- New Backlog items attach to historic releases. Logic
implemented to associate new backlog items with the
most likely release, not just the first release in the
list.
- Support for new app server/database combinations:
JBoss-MySQL, JBoss-SQLServer, and IBM WebSphere.
ScrumWorks 1.1 Release
- Task Status Field: To help clearly identify the status of
various
tasks, ScrumWorks now has a status field column that can be
selected from
a drop-down list.
- Sprint Names: It is useful to designate overlapping
sprints with a name.
The name field is especially useful in cases of multi-team
scrums.
- Task Prioritization: Team Member may wish to prioritize
the tasks
once they have been decomposed. In holding with the relative
prioritization
paradigm, Tasks can be assigned relative priorities using
drag-n-dop.
- Fixes various bugs: Several bugs identified in verion 1.0
have been
resolved. Most notably, the off-by-one error in task burndown
histories that
did not let users see estimate values for the first day of the
sprint has been resolved.
ScrumWorks 1.0 Release
- Dual Column Product Backlog UI: this is a major UI
enhancement. Rather
than scrolling through a very large list of backlog items,
we've separated
the list into two scrollable columns, one contains committed
backlog items (in Sprints)
and the other uncommitted backlog items (in proposed releases
or groups). Drag n'
drop works across the columns. Now you can prioritize the
uncommitted backlog on
one side and move things into sprints on the other.
- Team Member Role and Login: added authenticated web pages
outside the
Desktop Client for each Team Member user in the system. Team
Members may
log in and find summary information about the current
iteration, such as
"My Tasks", "All Tasks", "Burndown Chart", and
"Impediments".
- Sprint Detail by Day: Added option to view the history of
task estimates,
day by day, in the Sprint Detail window. This is reminescent
of ADM's
spread sheet application.
- Drag n' Drop tasks: tasks can be moved from PBI to PBI.
The task will
associate to the new PBI on release.
- Customizable backlog effort units: select any unit you
desire to track
your backlog effort estimates (days, function points, hours,
big/med/large, etc.)
- User Management: A new dialog to manage existing users.
Update user
login and password information easily.
- Simple license activation: new users are created in the
system by
importing license files. Use the file upload utility to easily
activate
your license or add new users.
- Task Level Effort Summation: Sprint and Release headers now
display a
sum of associated task hours.
- Export/Print Sprint Burndown Chart: right-click the
burndown chart for
robust menu options including the export to PNG file format and
print dialog.
- Drag n' Drop Enhancements: major UI enhancements to the
original DnD system.
Drop targets are now between items and are indicated to the
user before dropping.
- Internationalization support: the client application
automatically determines
whether to use en_US or international date formats based on
locale. Cross-national
teams can work with the date formats to which each nationality
is accustomed.
- Server-side installer: makes installing the ScrumWorks
server-side component
easier, even without systems administration experience.
Installer installs the
supporting files, application server, and database package
needed to run ScrumWorks.
Install on any Windows 2000/XP/2003, Mac, or Linux computer.
- A number of bugs were fixed in this release.
ScrumWorks 0.9 (Beta) Release
This is a public beta release of ScrumWorks. We invite the
Scrum
community to
try ScrumWorks and provide feedback. Please contact us
to arrange for a beta trial for your organization. Current
features include:
- Rich client GUI for the "ScrumMaster" user role. Launches
over the network
using Java Web Start.

from "File" menu.
- Management of Product Backlog Items (PBIs): create new,
edit existing PBIs, and

another PBI to displace
it's priority. In the near future, this will be enhanced
greatly and the GUI will
provide feedback about your drop target before you drop.
- Add Sub-Tasks to PBIs: right-click feature to add Tasks to
PBIs, whether
or not the PBI is part of sprint.
- Sprint Management: Create and delete Sprints. Edit Sprint
start date,
end date, and goals.
- Drag 'n Drop Sprint Population: drag PBIs into Sprints.
PBI sub-Tasks move with the parent
PBI.
- PBI Level Effort Summations: The Backlog Effort column is
the estimated effort
remaining for individual PBIs. There are also some cumulative
summary rows: The
Sprint Rows and the Uncommitted Product Backlog Items rows.
These values are the
summed total of PBI estimated effort remaining for PBIs in
specific Sprints as
well as uncommitted PBIs (respectively).
- Separate Sprint Detail Window: focus on the tasks at hand
and block everything
else out.
- Add Sprint Tasks from Sprint Detail View: conveniently add
new tasks as they
surface
- Edit Sprint Tasks: title, estimated effort remaining,
description, point person.
- Robust Task Sorting: Sort and sub-sort using the ctrl key.
- Sprint Burndown Chart: real-time burndown chart, an
effective information
radiator to see the "estimated effort remaining" for the Sprint
tasks defined.
- Re-size Sprint Detail Panels: customizable view that allows
re-sizing and
collapsing of panels.
- Impediment Tracking: add new impediments (project wide
scope). Edit and resolve
impediments, too.

- Server runs on Win98/2000/XP, MacOSX, Unices. Deploy as a
single J2EE "EAR" file.
